What are the duties of a Seaman in Nigerian Navy?
Seamen are responsible for the smooth operation of the majority of occurrences above deck.
You will be performing tasks in connection with deck maintenance, small boat operations, navigation, and supervising all personnel assigned to a ship’s deck force or shore unit.
You will also work on general maintenance, repair, sanitation, and upkeep of material, equipment, and areas that are the responsibility of the Deck Department.
What rank is Seaman in Nigerian Navy?
The rank of a Nigerian Navy Seaman immediately after recruitment is “Ordinary Rating”.
It is the first non-commissioned rank that successful recruits obtain after passing out of the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School (NNBTS).
How much is Nigerian Navy Seaman paid monthly?
The Nigerian Navy salary is based on ranks.
And since the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School (NNBTS) entry rank is Ordinary Rating.
Your salary as a fresh Seaman in Nigerian Navy immediately after recruitment will be around ₦45,854 monthly.
It increases as you advance in rank.
Requirements for Nigerian Navy recruitment for Seaman

The Nigerian Navy accepts ANY of these O’Level results (WAEC, GCE, NECO, NABTEB, WAEC City & Guilds or London City & Guild) at not more than 2 sittings and not older than 6 years from the date of your application.
In your O’Level result,
You must have at least CREDIT in these subjects:

- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Any other Science subject
Higher education requirements for Seaman in Nigerian Navy
You are also required to possess:
- BSc/HND in Nautical Sciences.
Also intermediate City & Guilds or Trade Test II could be considered. Technical bias will be an advantage.
